Food Poisoning

The people desire food which is attractive as well as nutritive. They also check if food is visibly clean or not. But very few are aware that food may also contain some noxious substances.

These noxious substances may be

1) Poisonous Chemicals :
The food may be contaminated with poisonous chemicals or with the chemicals which may not be poisonous in small quantity but may be harmful in large quantities.
The food may come into contact with such chemical substances accidentally during growth, cultivation or preparation of food or may accumulate in the food during storage in metal containers or may form in the food through interaction of chemical components, or may be concentrated from the natural components of the food.

2) Microorganisms ( Germs) :
Food may be contaminated with germs if food is coming from infected food animals, infected food handlers or from environment during preparation. Bacteria and mold may form in the food.

Whatever the way food is contaminated with noxious substances, consumption of such a food produces illness called Food Poisoning or Gastroenteritis. Such poisoning is usually characterized by vomiting and/or diarrhea along with variety of abdominal disturbances.
